Scientific Linux 6 hits RC1

http://listserv.fnal.gov/scripts/wa....vel&T=0&P=5749

I wouldn't trust a distro that spells "mailing list" as "Maillling list" though

Re: Scientific Linux 6 hits RC1

Sci Linux is way ahead of Centos in getting RHEL6 freeleased.

Re: Scientific Linux 6 hits RC1

It's the soap opera of the CentOS fora and mailing lists actually. Wayne, I believe it's based in Switzerland, meaning they may not be native English speakers.

SL has been way ahead of CentOS, which was part of the continuing soap opera mentioned above.

(See CentOS user archives and/or 12 page thread on CentOS fora about it. I think there's a third drama going on, with the developer lists.

Oracle also has their OL (they've dropped the E as in Enterprise) 6 out, if I'm not mistaken (but I wouldn't swear that isn't just, "I saw it on the Internet somewhere,") but as of 2 days ago at least, it was not a supported hardware platform for Oracle Database. (That isn't a "Just read it on the Internet," that was the official word we were given in response to an inquiry.

Re: Scientific Linux 6 hits RC1

I'm guessing that's a joke--newcomers might not realize it, and there's enough aggravation among some CentOS users as is.

One has to keep in mind that SL has some university lab types working on it, who are probably given time to do so, whereas CentOS is a fairly small team of developers with day jobs. Due, in part, to the lateness of this release, it's possible the size of the team may increase in the future.
