Wireless Broadcomm drivers broken after update

I just rebooted my netbook after updates this last week and notices the wireless is broken now. The updates updated my kernel and wl modules. I'm using a broadcom 43224 driver.
If i reboot to the older kernel the wireless works. Anyone else experiencing this same type of issue?

Re: Wireless Broadcomm drivers broken after update

About all you can do is confirm that the versions of the installed packages make sense regarding the new kernel...
Code:
rpm -qa | grep -e kernel -e broadcom-wl -e kmod-wl | sort
And you can reboot into the new kernel and confirm that the wl module is being loaded...
Code:
lsmod | sort
If all of that looks okay, then maybe it's not related to the driver. In your other thread going on now, you discuss issues related to dhclient. Maybe it's all about that.

Re: Wireless Broadcomm drivers broken after update

It's possible but its all since i rebooted the machine two days ago. I had not rebooted the machine for about 3 weeks and noticed several updates. It all worked perfectly before hand. I was running
2.6.35.10-74 kernel I just verified what is install for both the old and the new 2.6.35.11-83 kernel and there are duplicate packeges based on the kernel. I have temporarily just removed the new kernel and running on the older one for now.. I even reinstalled the wl drivers etc with no luck.
Thanks for replying.

One thing you can try while you're booted in the previous kernel with working wireless is to install the akmod version of the driver. Then re-install the new kernel and reboot into it. Try the wireless.
Code:
su
yum install akmod-wl

Re: Wireless Broadcomm drivers broken after update

Hmm, in general, automatic updates are fine, if you are running a run of the mill machine. However, if you had any issues during the installation (as with pretty much all laptops), or installed something weird such as a virtualizer, or a program you compiled yourself, then doing automatic updates is risky, so I pretty much always disable auto-updates, to prevent it from being an auto-screw-up...
