Re: Fedora 14 installation halts (nothing is urgent on this forum)

Are you trying to drive dual displays? If so, boot up with SECOND video cable unplugged and run your install. After you've successfully logged in once (i.e. Fedora up & running), shut down & plug your second monitor back in.

For some reason, video detect can't handle duals initially. In FC14 this happens during install. In FC 13, it used to happen at video mode switch just prior to login screen.

Any HINT at what solved it for you? As of today, we have a post from another with the same problem. As I posted MY resolution and it didn't fit the circumstances, are you able to help us/others?

Thanks if you can help.

Re: Fedora 14 installation halts (nothing is urgent on this forum)

I tried to install Fedora 14 Kde through a burned CD, but when it was booting, the computer got frozen with a blue screen. I saw some words like "syslinux is missing..."

I asked my cousin who plays Fedora, and he told me to verify the .iso with SHA algorithm which I am totally layman.Click image for larger version

Re: Fedora 14 installation halts (nothing is urgent on this forum)

Assuming you have a Linux installation, you would run sha256sum whatever.iso. Then, you compare it with the sha256 sum given on the download page.

Not sure what the Windows equivalent is. At any rate, you go to any Fedora mirror, e.g
http://mirrors.kernel.org/fedora/rel...ra/x86_64/iso/ (That would be for the 64 bit versoins) and look at the file with CHECKSUM in its name.

(Of course, that particular mirror doesn't have the KDE version. Hrrm, looking around the Fedora site, I don't see where the checksum would be, though I imagine it's around somewhere.

Ahh, found it.

https://fedoraproject.org/en/verify

Well, a link to the checksums anyway. They give information on commands to verify it.

If the checksum matches--note that you run it against the iso file, not the burned CD--then it was, quite possibly, a bad burn.

Re: Fedora 14 installation halts (nothing is urgent on this forum)

Thank you for you kind instruction.

Yeah the latter one is where the CHECKSUM to be downloaded.

But where could I run the verification? In the terminal? ... I am now using Ubuntu 10.04.

I am wondering how could I upgrade my Ubuntu to Fedora... a joke, lol.

I failed for several times to install Fedora with CDs. Really frustrated.
