Kernel panic after upgrade

I used kpackagekit to install the latest updates.
While looking or searching for the updates, my laptop didn't respond to any action so after half an hour I decided to do a hard reboot.

After the reboot I received a kernel panic message (Unable to mount root fs on unknown-block(0,0)).
I still can boot with the previous kernel so first I made a backup and after that I did an upgrade with 'yum upgrade'

When I try to boot into the latest kernel I still get an error.

This is my grub.conf:
default=0
timeout=5
splashimage=(hd0,4)/grub/splash.xpm.gz
hiddenmenu

initrd /initramfs-2.6.35.10-74.fc14.i686.PAE.img
title Other

chainloader +1

What should I do now?

Ben

it looks like the line for initializing the ramdisk is missing (i added it in highlighted in red).

first make sure the file exists at /boot/initramfs-2.6.35.11-83.fc14.i686.PAE.img, then add the line and try again.

Re: Kernel panic after upgrade

well, from your description it seems like kpackagekit was still in the middle of updating your system when you hard rebooted.

i believe kpackagekit is just a frontend for yum, so from a terminal window and as root, try running:
Code:
[root]# yum-complete-transaction
