Question Latest SANE genesys backend

Hi guys,

Does anyone know of a RPM for the latest SANE genesys backend?

I am the unhappy owner of a Canon Lide 100...

Cheers,

F.

Hello,

yum should be able to give you the info you need.
# yum info sane*

Re: Latest SANE genesys backend

OK, thanks for that Yum tip:

Name : sane-backends
Arch : i686
Version : 1.0.21
Release : 5.fc14

Which seems to be the latest stable source.

The Canon Lide 100 driver has been marked Finished for months already, so I guess I would need to try a development snapshot and compile it myself.

The trouble is that it has been years since I compiled code on Fedora, so I need to figure out how to install the tool chain - every distro has its funnies.

Re: Latest SANE genesys backend

I have the same issue, but an LiDe 110 CanoScan flatbed

(it was the only one in the store, unfortunately)

The file /etc/sane.d/genesys.conf shows models 30 40 50 60 supported, but not 100 or 110

As you say Version : 1.0.21 Release : 5.fc14 is latest

I have tried VueScan, which lists support for 110 but it simply tells me the obvious ie that there is no linux driver for the 110 flatbed

My current idea is to try and match a windows driver to ndiswrapper (mainly used with wireless drivers), but progress is slow currently as the kernel upgrade of two days ago broke my video driver

Will re-post if and when any progress is made

Regards, John

Re: Latest SANE genesys backend

Well, I uninstalled Sane, then downloaded the latest Sane backend and frontend snapshots and compiled them:
http://www.sane-project.org/snapshots/

The man page says that the Canon Lide 100 is supported:
$ man sane-genesys
Canon LiDE 35/40/50/60/100/110/200/210

However, the scanner is not detected properly.

This test finds it:
$ sane-find-scanner
found USB scanner (vendor=0x04a9, product=0x1904, chip=GL847?) at libusb:001:008
# Your USB scanner was (probably) detected. It may or may not be supported by
# SANE. Try scanimage -L and read the backend's manpage.

and this test doesn't:
$ scanimage -L
No scanners were identified. If you were expecting something different,
check that the scanner is plugged in, turned on and detected by the
sane-find-scanner tool (if appropriate). Please read the documentation
which came with this software (README, FAQ, manpages).

and xcanimage doesn't either:
$ xscanimage
[xscanimage] No scanners were identified. If you were expecting something
different, check that the scanner is plugged in, turned on and
detected by sane-find-scanner (if appropriate). Please read
the documentation which came with this software (README, FAQ,
manpages).

Bah, humbug...

Re: Latest SANE genesys backend

My guess is that .. sane-backends-git20110214.tar.gz .. is missing some components for LiDe 100 110

Re: Latest SANE genesys backend

Hi, I have the very same issue with my HP scanjet 3670:

$ scanimage -L

No scanners were identified.

$ sane-find-scanner

found USB scanner (vendor=0x03f0, product=0x1405, chip=GL646_HP?) at libusb:002:003

$ more /etc/sane.d/genesys.conf
# genesys.conf: Configuration file for Genesys Logic GL646 and GL841 based scann
ers
[...]
# Hewlett Packard ScanJet 3670c/3690c
usb 0x03f0 0x1405

does someone have an idea how to get this great scanner to work under Fedora 14

many thanks

Re: Latest SANE genesys backend

through: http://forums.fedoraforum.org/showthread.php?t=46440

I noticed that the "I:" line in my file /proc/bus/usb/devices contains Driver=(none), when I apply the suggested fix:

[root@fedje ~]# modprobe scanner vendor=0x03f0 product=0x1405
FATAL: Module scanner not found.
