vim editor

in MS word,
we can set The default text(as template) whenever we open it.
so we can avoid the repetitive typing.

is it possible in vim editor?

i need to type,
Quote:
<html>
<body>
<script>

script goes here.......

</script>
</body>
</html>
whenever i write the new script..
i am repeating the above format..
is there any possiblity to set vim editor to display the above text as default?

Re: vim editor

Hello,

I do not think VI can do that, not sure, but a work around is to create a starter file with the info in it, then just copy it to the new file name an edit it that.

I don't use vim myself, but this looks easy enough and seems to be exactly what you want:

Good luck

Re: vim editor

You can set Templates via Desktop Environment.

For example, in Gnome and Xfce, you have a directory/folder named Templates under your home directory.

Code:
$HOME/Templates
or
Code:
~/Templates
Try to create a file named page.html and write whatever you want in it. Then right click on your desktop, go to Templates and you should see page.html.

It may not be as convenient as Templates in vim, but I still hope this will help you

Re: vim editor

The easiest thing to do would be to create a "template.html" and then open that up in vim, do your editing and then "save as" using:

Code:
:w filename

Re: vim editor

Took me all of 10 seconds to find this in Google, maybe you should try searching next time?
