Question "choppy" H.264 / AVC video playback in totem

Does anyone have this problem?

when I play H.264 / AVC videos from my new camera in totem, the sound plays fine but the video looks like a slide show.

I also tried it in xine, the video plays better, but the audio does not play. (the video seems to play in slow motion.

the files are saved as *.mp4, and are the same resolution as the *.mp4 files from my old camera which play fine in totem.
When I look at the properties of the files, the new ones say that the codec is H.264 / AVC and the ones from my old camera say that the codec is MPEG-4 video. the frame rate is the same for both files.

any advice?

Not sure if it's a solution, just try vlc. It plays mostly formats without any trouble.

does it play the H.264 / AVC video?

I would rather fix my totem player if possible.

Hello
are the vids hd ? I get the same problem you describe trying to play 720 vids with totem, mplayer is the only player I've found that'll play them without a hitch.
Strangely they are worse when played from the command line
right click on the file > open with other app > use custom command and type mplayer

yes, they are 720p HD videos, same resolution as the ones from my old camera. It plays the 720p HD videos fine from the old camera, so I dont think that it is a problem playing the 720p resolution. It is a problem w/ that codec.

I really want to use totem, does anyone know of a work-a-round? or a fix?

Yes, had worked well, but I can't say assuredly if it was HD. Try it out, you have nothing to loose..
About totem, no idea, I don't use (or better don't like) it.

Use gnome mediaplayer. It directly supports vdpau.
You might have to manually change to that option in the preferences.
