Re: TOR browser not working

It could be that you need to compile and make the program. What type of file is "start-tor-browser"? e.g RPM. Is there a Readme or Install file? If what you downloaded was source then you can compile and make it by cd'ing to the unpacked directory and
Code:
./configure
make
su -
make install
For some programs 'make install' is unnecessary, if so then you just configure and make the source then run the executable(or invoke it from the terminal).

Here is a guide how to install Tor and Privoxy on F10. Maybe it helps.

No, the tor bundle as it is called is distributed as a binary.

Where did you extract the browser bundle to ?

Run it from the command line and see what errors it gives. I do not think it runs from a FAT partition (wondering if you extracted it to a flash drive).

Re: TOR browser not working

maybe you have to install any library. Run it from terminal, maybe it shows any file or library which is missing.

If it show any missing file(s) you can use 'yum whatprovides ...'.

You have to run it from the command line to see the error messages.

Do you know how to open a terminal and start the application there ? At the command prompt type :

/home/your_user/path_to/tor-browser

You then google search the error and/or file a bug with the tor project.

If the tor bundle is not working, you have to install and configure tor manually.

Code:
yum install tor vidalia polipo
Then configure tor, polipo, and your browser.

http://bodhizazen.net/Tutorials/TOR

The tor project now advises polipo over privoxy (most of the Fedora specific tutorials use privoxy). Either proxy is fine, so long as you know how to configure it.

Re: TOR browser not working

Fenrin,

how do I run it from the terminal? Could you please give me the command? If I click the 'run in terminal' button in the screenshot I just posted in my previous message, nothing happens. The terminal appears for a brief second and disappears.

thanks

Hi Bodhi,

thanks for your reply. I tried installing the tor browser manually. I can open vidalia, Vaidalia opens and connects to the TOR network. That is all. The associated browser is not opening.

You can use any browser, firefox, chromium, does not matter. Configure the browser to use TOR. See the second link I gave you, configure your browser section.

The connection to www.facebook.com was interrupted while the page was loading.

* The site could be temporarily unavailable or too busy. Try again in a few
moments.

* If you are unable to load any pages, check your computer's network
connection.

* If your computer or network is protected by a firewall or proxy, make sure
that Firefox is permitted to access the Web.

getting this error message when i am trying to browser any website

and also if i click on test connection gives me error message like "Tor proxy test: Local HTTP Proxy is unreachable. Is Polipo running properly?"
