Toshiba A665 laptop keyboard backlight no workee. Fixee?

Hi, fellow Fedora fans. I have a Toshiba A665-S6092. Core i7 CPU and I installed a Kingston SSD so it's up to the job. It supposedly has keyboard backlight but I can't figure out how to get that function functioning. Now, I know this ain't real important but I have a feeling other people might like to have that too so I'm asking. Does anybody in Fedora Land have any experience getting Toshiba keyboard backlight working? Maybe I'm wrong about it having this option, I can't find any mention of it using all the tools at my disposal. lspci, the Gnome device lister, xorg keyboard config, etc. Apparently everything except the right thing. I've Googled until I'm Googleyed and searched this forum and LinuxQuestions.org (which seems to have been hijacked by Slackware fanatics over the last few years) and other forums like JustLinux, Linux.com. I can't remember them all. I've looked through source code that I could make no sense of and wondered why I was pretending to be qualified to do that until I realized how important this has become to me, although it is as I said a relatively trivial matter. If anybody knows and wants additional information I'll be more than happy to supply it. I'm running the default kernel for Fedora 14 64 bit, 2.6.35.6-45.fc14.x86_64. Thanks ahead of time.

Re: Toshiba A665 laptop keyboard backlight no workee. Fixee?

First do you really know if it does have that option?

You maybe trying to do something the laptop can not do.

Go to the Toshiba website and plug in all the info for you laptop, model number and right down to the final production code.

Like mine is an A75S2112.

You will then be presented with a list of all options on that laptop. If it doesn't say its there its not.

Re: Toshiba A665 laptop keyboard backlight no workee. Fixee?

Thank you jakebpg for the quick reply. But now I'm embarassed. It took a long time on the Toshiba site (I have a dialup connection) but apparently my model does NOT have keyboard backlighting. Hmm... I have plenty of blacklight in the room. Maybe some high quality fluorescent painting of the keyboard letters. See, I like to surf the web while the wife sleeps next to me and I don't want to disturb her with a light. Or maybe I can make a small LED lamp with a flexible extension. Fasten it with a clip of some kind to the top of the screen. Thanks again.

They already make such a device but I can't remember what it's called. It can be used for books also which make help in a search on the net through google.

I would search for led lamp for laptops and or books with clip attachment.

Here's a start I found at Amazon:

http://www.amazon.com/Dorcy-41-1425-.../dp/B001PII7O2

There are many more to choose from just google search for similar products.

Re: Toshiba A665 laptop keyboard backlight no workee. Fixee?

Thanks, but I like making stuff like that. I have a clip on book light I'm using now but I think I'd like one that extends on out over the center of the keyboard. Maybe a row of three low intensity LED bulbs shielded with something. Power it off the USB bus. It would draw very little current, probably less than 30 milliamps. You won't find any like that for sale anywhere. And I don't know why because it would be more effective to have lower power lights spread out over the entire board than having one of higher power in the middle because the higher power light would create more glare off the keys. Thanks again.
