Wink

Hi,

I had the same problem at a school I intern at. We tried the install cd on several of the same model computer and received the same results you listed. We then tried it on another computer which was the same model, except for a different model cdrom drive, and the install worked fine. I would say that the problem lies with the cdrom drive.

Did you run an MD% check on the ISO images?

Did the CD pass the media check once it was read?

But sounds like you could be right the final drive that read the CD may be more fault tolerant than the others.

Also, it wouldn't hurt to burn it at a slower speed like 4x instead of the highest that your burner or CD would allow!!!

Does burning at a slower speed really help the process I mean the burner was designd to burn at it's max, I would be more worried about the integrity of the ISO. With burners having buffer underrun protection etc. I have thought that burning at a slower speed would have been an old issue.

I have been wrong before though, just once

Question package installation does not recognize CD-ROM drive

I have a similar problem with Fedora Core 4 (FC4). I tried to install some packages with the utility on the first installation CD, but then when it tells me to put in CD #2, it won't recognize it. Every time I hit ok it says there is a problem and it can't recognize the disk. However, I can go into my file system manager (Nautilus) and doule-click on the CD-ROM drive (which happens to be a CD-RW drive) and it opens and I can read files just fine.
What's up with that!? I have no idea what to do. Obviously the drive works fine and the CD is ok too.
