Re: xorg consumes too much cpu on F11

The live CD isn't running as much as a desktop.

If you are running htop (essentially the same as the CLI top) you are
giving the X server a lot of work to update the display. Sample timing
issues can show a 50% load, even if it isn't due to the timing.

I'm not going to claim this is absolute, but it has been my experience
that top/htop can only give a relative load average. On my system
top gives me "load average: 0.66, 0.51, 0.46", but then, I have 8
processors, I have the audio services going, and the hulu desktop.

Re: xorg consumes too much cpu on F11

What CPU? X usage will go up and down depending on what software is running within it. I have a Dual core pentium (2x2.2 Ghz) and top shows between 2-30%, but generally 10% (which is a little strange because the total at the same time is only 5%...)

Anyway, most likely: the live CD will show a much lower usage because there is a bottleneck accessing the CDROM. In other words, the cpu constantly has to wait (this is why the live CD is so much slower), meaning it has less work to do, meaning the CPU time consumed by X will be lower.

problem is that very often my fan starts to run, and since the xorg is most of the time on top , i thought i ask if there is somethign i can do about it.
also, looking at the system-monitor, the resources tab show both cores being constantely over 50%, and im not doing anything...
