Unhappy audio lost after a while, why ?!?

Hi, first to say that I'm here to stay with Fedora. I was Mandrake user
for last 2 years but I'm back.

I installed FC2 without problems and during install my sound worked, also
after installation (after xmms-mp3) I could listen to audio and video
files. Then it stopped. I'm not sure but I think that was after I went in
KDE. I was in Gnome the whole time but I wen't to see how KDE looks in
FC2. After that (not sure again) I don't have sound.

I have tried xmms (mplayer and others) set to alsa, arts, oss and it's all
the same. It plays audio without error but I don't hear anything.

In Gnome tray I have mixer, there I have two mixers. First says CMI9739
and there all volumes are ok, working and not set to 0.

The other mixer is SIS SI7012 (Alsa mixer) and there lies the problem. I
see PCM volume that is at 0 and i can't move it up! I tried alsamixer in
terminal window but it is the same.

I tried googleing but came up with nothing. Does anybody have an idea what
can I try out? Can I kill some sound servers? Restart them? And how do I
do that? Will that help? I don't understand why everything worked and just
stopped for no obvious reason.

SOS, HELP and MAYDAY!

Bye

For all others having same problem here is the answer:

Edit /etc/modprobe.conf and change "snd-card-0" to "sound-slot-0"

I only needed to change mine from:
alias snd-card-0 snd-intel8x0
to:
alias sound-slot-0 snd-intel8x0

and now I have sound! I love Fedora Core 2 !!!

and read thread named
"Sound Issues FC2"

bye
