How to install Sun java

I cannot seem to install Sun java. I have

jre-6u23-linux-i586-rpm.bin

sitting on my desktop.

I need this java to run a special program that requires Sun java.

I will add that I am quite new to Fedora so still in the intense learning curve.

As root, make the .bin file executable and invoke it

Code:

chmod a+x jre-6u23-linux-i586-rpm.bin 
./jre-6u23-linux-i586-rpm.bin

dont forget to set sun java as default.otherwise u would be stuck with openjava.

For future use, you could go to the Java website and follow instructions there to download and install. I usually don't install openjava, but install the Sun Java from Oracle.

You don't even need the first chmod command if you call the script indirectly from sh, ie.
if you tell 'sh' shell to run that bin file as a target:

sh ./jre-6u23-linux-i586-rpm.bin
