Gnome shelf applet problem / replacement

It's probably something few noticed, but the default Gnome Shelf Applet is broken on Fedora 14. You can add it on a panel and use it as long as it last your session. After a logout or a restart the Shelf button does not react to clicks and you can't access the contents.
It's something trivial but it distracts my workflow, as I have to use lot of applets in small screens with equivalently low resolution and that applet saved my lots of space in the gnome-panel.

I filled a bug on Fedora's bugzilla without exception anything but I hope someone in the forums knows a workaround or a replacement for that applet.
