No sound input device

I have 2.6.35.9-64.fc14.x86_64 and have problems with recording.

The window in System/Pref/Sound 'Choose a device for sound input' is empty.
I have ALSA as sound system.
With Audacity I can record when I hook my audio player to 'Mic input' in my sound card (giving low quality) but I don't get anything when I connect to 'Line in' since I can't choose a device for sound input.
I want to choose 'Line in' in System/Pref/Sound when recording ... but how ?

Following commands give:

lspci | grep -i audio
00:1b.0 Audio device: Intel Corporation 5 Series/3400 Series Chipset High Definition Audio (rev 06)

arecord -l

Re: No sound input device

Run alsamixer and check the input device is selected and the volume is at maximum.
