Aw Crud! I deleted my /boot folder!
As the title states, I deleted my /boot folder on one of my F14 installations. I'll have to fix it later. I have F14 under VirtualBox on the same computer. I'd bet I can copy from there and be OK.

Buncha comedians
Watch this. I'm going to boot Fedora 14 / VirtualBox, update that system and then copy /boot. It'll work.

And hope the Virtual Machine's initramfs images contain the same or suitable drivers needed for the "hard iron" OS.
Good Luck,

Re: Aw Crud! I deleted my /boot folder!
Run dracut after copying, it should rebuild your initramfs.
Either than or force install your current kernel rpm.
Edit: Also, after you copy, rpm -V grub filesystem fedora-logos and your kernels, those are the packages that own the files in my boot directory.

Playing with that old laptop hard disk, 3 or 4 computers involved at different times, forgetting what I was doing or what computer I was doing it on. You know, sheer stupidity

I don't really mind having to reinstall but I'd rather fix it if I can.

Re: Aw Crud! I deleted my /boot folder!
I'd try dracut --force to overwrite the initramfs you copied from the virtual machine. dracut examines your hardware and makes sure all the appropriate drivers are available in the initial ram filesystem at boot time. You may be okay with the standard set on both installs, but in general it should do The Right Thing (tm). I believe dracut is run as part of the post install script for all kernel rpms.

Re: Aw Crud! I deleted my /boot folder!
Had already done that, with --force. Haven't rebooted yet. Got distracted by real life. What about that rpm -V thing. How's that work? (looking at man rpm as I post)
I give up. Rest in peace Phenom14.

Re: Aw Crud! I deleted my /boot folder!
rpm -V will verify all the files that were installed by a particular rpm are in the correct place with the correct permissions and checksums. rpm -V grub would let you know if you deleted something vital from /boot, but didn't put it back.
At this point, I'd just cross my fingers and go for it. I give it an solid 80% chance of working. :-)

Re: Aw Crud! I deleted my /boot folder!
Even though I posted the picture of the head stone the installation is still intact. I've installed another Fedora 14 to a newly created partition. The challenge of getting the old one working interests me. Thanks for the replies to date.
