Broadcom BCM4313 Problem Fedora 14
Hi guys, I've tried many guides, followed many examples on linuxwireless.org, tried other posts I've seen in forums such as the fwcutter, RPM, yum and all that stuff. I cannot get my wireless working on Fedora 14. I am rather a linux noob and need a good step by step process to get my wireless card working. The PCI ID is 14e4:4727 which seems to be supported but I'm not going to lie, I am not sure of what I am doing. If anyone could guide me through that would be great!
Thanks in advance!

Re: Broadcom BCM4313 Problem Fedora 14
That Broadcom chipset is known to work with the Broadcom 802.11 STA Linux driver. The binary version available from RPM Fusion is commonly used and easy to install. I recommend that you do that. If the computer has a wired connection to the Internet for yum to do the installation, then try the Broadcom wireless HOWTO... http://forums.fedoraforum.org/showthread.php?t=239922 I recommend that you skip straight to section #2 on the Broadcom 802.11 STA Linux driver. Return here with questions, problems, or success.
If the computer does not have a wired connection, then you still can install the driver in an offline situation. For that, return and report the running kernel... From that, I or someone will tell you which files to download, transfer to the wireless computer, and manually install.

Re: Broadcom BCM4313 Problem Fedora 14
I don't think you should worry about updating. First, make sure that you've installed and enabled the RPM Fusion repos (yum repolist). Then do the update. Watch what's happening during the update. The new broadcom-wl stuff should be part of the update. Then reboot into the new kernel and try the wireless. If the broadcom-wl packages are not updated along with the kernel, then the wireless for the new kernel will be busted. It happens that way every now and then. Usually, using the previous kernel for a day or two longer and then trying the update again fixes that. The akmod version overcomes that issue by automatically generating the kmods for new kernels.
Regarding what happened last time, something to try if it doesn't connect is to right-click the NetworkManager panel icon, "Edit Connections", "Wireless", delete all existing wireless connections, try again to connect. Also try rebooting, especially if you're using the akmod version.

Re: Broadcom BCM4313 Problem Fedora 14
Well now it works
I updated the kmod-wl with the exact version of the updated kernel and all works again
even ethernet (weird because is a realtek)
Thank you buddy
I wish I could change my wifi for another without blob
Am considering getting a usb one, if it is compatible it should be "plug and play" ? or any extra configuration is needed?.
thanks again buddy

Re: Broadcom BCM4313 Problem Fedora 14
I got this far to realize that I could not add the repos for RPM Fusion. I went to their website and found that they had a lovely webbased method to update the repos. It took two days of searching to do that.

Re: Broadcom BCM4313 Problem Fedora 14
Broadcom 4313 can use the brcmsmac driver, which so far as I know is completely open source and is included in the kernel.
For whatever reason, this wasn't included in the kernel that ships with F16 (though one can still install kmod-staging from rpm fusion).
However, I think this is included in the newer kernels in the Fedora repos (3.1.1).
If this is right, all that is needed after a fresh F16 install is to update the system (over wired) and wireless should be working when you reboot into the newer kernel (even without the rpmfusion packages).
