suspend/resume problem with F14 radeon kms

Hi!

As already reported for the F14 rawhide a few months ago (http://forums.fedoraforum.org/showthread.php?t=249814) there are some problems with suspend under fedoras version of kernel-2.6.35. It all works if I boot my self compiled vanilla 2.6.35-rc3 though.

The environment
Sony vaio VGN-SR21M 4GBRAM P8400, ATI HD3400 mobility
I use
kernel-2.6.35.6-45.fc14.x86_64
xorg-x11-drv-ati.x86_64-6.13.1-0.3.20100705git37b348059.fc14

The problem:
If I suspend my notebook it starts the usual slow orange blinking indicating the suspend mode got reached. There is also evidence in the various log files that this works.
If I try to resume it hangs a for 3 seconds and then I get the hdd-password screen from my bios and the notebook boots from zero. I couldn't find anything in /var/log/messages nor dmesg.

Not the new part of the story:
If I first boot to windows (grub 2nd partition) and then restart and boot to linux, all the suspend works fine!

Sounds like there is something missing in the radeon initialisation?
If you have some config / kernel patches I could try then please tell me.

txs and LieGrue,
strub

Re: suspend/resume problem with F14 radeon kms

found a solution for this problem:

I needed to add my notebook model (VGN-SR21M) to
/usr/share/hal/fdi/information/10freedesktop/20-video-quirk-pm-sony.fdi
to enable pm-suspend quirksmode for reinitialising the video card bios power_management.quirk.s3_bios

The line now looks like:
Quote:
<match key="system.hardware.product" string_outof="VGN-FS115B;VGN-C140G;VGN-TX3XP_L;VGN-T250P;VGN-AR31S;PCV-RX612;VGN-FS485B;VGN-SZ61XN_C;VGN-TZ37;VGN-TZ170N;VGN-FS920;VGN-C240E;PCG-FX601;VGN-SR11M;VGN-SR21M">
<merge key="power_management.quirk.s3_bios" type="bool">true</merge>
<merge key="power_management.quirk.s3_mode" type="bool">true</merge>
</match>
If you have a similar problem, please test any quirks mode manually (man pm-suspend and check all --quirks* options) and tweak your hal files accordingly.
