Fedora 14 Failed to boot in Dell Latitude E5410 after preupgrade from Fedora 13

Hi guys,

Did a preupgrade from Fedora 13 to Fedora 14. Dowloaded packages and installed correctly, but when booting up Fedora 14, it shows the following error before starting the boot process

[ 0.085623] ERROR: Unable to locate IOAPIC for GSI 1
[ 0.086236] ERROR: Unable to locate IOAPIC for GSI 12
[ 0.086580] ERROR: Unable to locate IOAPIC for GSI 7

Then the booting starts, but stops in between and stays as it is, doesnt move to the next logon screen. After sometime the screen just goes black. Any work around for this?

Regards,
Anish

Did you already try the workarounds suggested in the Common Bugs document?

http://fedoraproject.org/wiki/Common...hical_problems

There is another section in this document that refers to specific Dell models, but I am not sure if your model falls into that category.

These workarounds are only for people comfortable with building and testing a new kernels. I don't know if thats the case for you?

yeah, you have hit https://bugs.freedesktop.org/show_bug.cgi?id=29278 ; congratulations, do not pass GO, do not collect $200.

it's getting to the point now where at least it may be feasible for kyle to backport a fix to f14, but I'm not sure; i'll check in with him about it.

you may be able to work around it by booting a pre-2.6.34 kernel - try the last f13 2.6.33 kernel, if you can find it.

Re: Fedora 14 Failed to boot in Dell Latitude E5410 after preupgrade from Fedora 13

Hi

I tried preupgrade in my personal laptop (Toshiba Satellite L20) from f13 to f14. The same thing happened in that also, the same errors, cannot even boot into. Looks like a bug!.

Re: Fedora 14 Failed to boot in Dell Latitude E5410 after preupgrade from Fedora 13

Hi everybody

I have exactly the same problem: unable to locate + freeze or black screen.

It seems this is due to the driver of the videocard: radeon (mobility radeon 9600 M10)

As far as I had some files to rescue, here is what i did:
boot on rescue mode
go on the folder /etc/X11
create a Xorg.conf file with
"Section Device
Identifier "VideoCard0"
Driver "Vesa"
EndSection

And it works ! of course the mode is incorrect (1080x780 instead of 1200x800) and i don't enjoy 3D effects anymore.

Better than nothing...

Mobility Radeon 9600 M10

Fedora 14 Failed to boot in Dell Inspirion 8500 after preupgrade from Fedora 13

System DELL Inspirion 8500

Everything was working hunky-dorry, on Fedora-13,boom.

1.A ballon window popped up saying that "would you like to preupgrade"
2. I said go ahead, system went thru all the check downloaded upgraded my repos
3.All the rpms, upgraded the dependencies and downloaded all the apps/sw.
4.Rebooted
5.Boom "Black screen" with a little cursor blinking ,does not display the login screen.

Please help, I am not a savvy linux user, and would need guidance on how to use grub to edit the command line mode.

Note: When I reboot and press <ESC> key the boot menu still shows Fedora-13 boot option,so I tried selecting that ,still the black screen with a little cursor blinks.

Any help appreciated , seem it could be the xorg.conf file problem,if yes can you help me what to do? or if this is a different kind of problem appreciate your guidance.
