[SOLVED] Ati X600 + FC14. No desktop effects.

I have a problem with ATI Mobility X600 card similar to http://forums.fedoraforum.org/showthread.php?t=253664

The result is that it is impossible to set "Desktop effects" and googleearth
pops a message that 'OpenGL' is in emulation mode (very slow)

The main difference with thread 253664 is that it occurs after a fresh FC14 install.

My system is a notebook HP pavilion zd7380.

On this system I previously installed fresh FC12 and FC13 without any problems
and with no additional configuration/drivers.

I noticed in the Xorg.0.log the following error that makes me think the problem is here:
On FC14:

[ 23.017] (II) AIGLX: Loaded and initialized /usr/lib/dri/r300_dri.so

Found many problems with Ati cards on forum, but no real applicable solution(s)

I have an Asus V6V notebook with the same graphic chipset and I've got the same problem (see below).

This is with Fedora 14-32 bit fresh install fully updated.
I can also confirm no problems with the Fedora 13.
I have also tried creating xorg.conf and tweaking with it, but no success.

Any suggestion ?

Try using the nomodeset kernel parameter.

As suggested by David, I made the test with 'nomodeset'

Now, X server immediately crashes with signal 11 (Segmentation fault).
