Permissions?: Cannot shutdown, access webcam, etc.
Hello, all.
I don't know what triggers this, but every now and then I seem to lose the ability to do a lot of stuff:
*access the webcam
*shutdown from GNOME
*change power manager preferences
*mount external drives
A reboot makes it all work again.
This is on Fedora 14.
Anyone else experienced something like this?
Thank you!

I have the same issue here! Fedora 14. I can't shutdown change power settings, usb disks. Also I can't use gnome's reboot if that happens. Robooting through command will work.
This may happen after the suspension to ram.

I don't have any problems with shutdown, reboot, etc. on Gnome. What desktop environment are you using?

Re: Permissions?: Cannot shutdown, access webcam, etc.
I'm using Gnome as well.
Like helloworld1 said, it seems to be connected to suspend/hibernate.
For me, I think it happens after resuming from hibernate.
In addition to the problems above, I also lose all sound.
Unlike what I said before, logging out and back in fixes it (no need to reboot).
Thanks!

Re: Permissions?: Cannot shutdown, access webcam, etc.
Yes, the pulseaudio permission is also gone. So I have no audio. It is just like I don't have any permissions other than my own user account.
It happens occasionally after resume from suspension.
I am using gnome.
I wonder which component should I file to Bugzilla.

Re: Permissions?: Cannot shutdown, access webcam, etc.
Hi, I have the same problem after I hibernate/resume. I noticed:
1. The shutdown, restart buttons don't appear
2. Logout, hibernate, suspend buttons show up, but don't do anything when you click on them.
3. Software package updates (which require a root authorization) faill with an error msg saying no credentials.
Seems like this is a known bug and will likely get fixed. In the mean time are there any workarounds, other than to reboot the system from the command line.
How do i just logout/login?

Just verified this workaround fixed the issue:
CTRL-ALT-F2 followed by
CTRL-ALT-F1
(I did login in the console screen the first time I had to use this workaround).
