    wine 32-bit doesn't detect 64-bit OpenGL

    Hi all,

I am running Fedora 13 with the nvidia blob for OpenGL hw acceleration, everything x86_64. I have spent a couple of days trying to get either Morrowing (TES3) or Oblivion (TES4) working under wine, unfortunately without success.

I have tried several flavors of wine: 64-bit wine from the fedora 13 repo, 32-bit wine from the fedora 13 repos, 32-bit wine 1.3.2 built from source. In all cases, running either of the games I get the same error (using WINEDEBUG=+d3d): "Direct3D requires OpenGL support." Appareantly wine d3d layer can't access to the nvidia OpenGL driver, and therefore d3d is disabled within wine -- making the two games not to start up.

I have tried looking around for a solution, but in all cases I found the root of the problem was missing OpenGL support / missing drivers. This is not my case; I use OpenGL everyday, and hardware acceleration is clearly supported in my configuration (confirmed with `glxinfo | grep direct`).

I think that wine might have problems accessing the 64-bit ogl drivers, but I don't know how to confirm it, and even less how to solve it. Clearly, installing Windows is not an option ;-)

Any help on this would be welcome.

    Thanks!

    Re: wine 32-bit doesn't detect 64-bit OpenGL

Did you install the nvidia 32 bit libs for your driver? You need that for 32bit wine to be able to do 3D acceleration.

Think perhaps this is what you want:
    yum install xorg-x11-drv-nvidia-libs.i686

PS. If you get oblivion running Id like to know if the audio continues working for you. After a short while of the game running it slows down and I receive some audio errors and the game eventually crashes. I cant post them now as Im not home to test.

    Re: wine 32-bit doesn't detect 64-bit OpenGL

Argh, you are right, I was missing the i686 nvidia driver :-/ (I previously attempted to install it doing `yum install *nvidia*i686` but that didn't work due to broken dependencies, and I assumed that i686 and x86_64 flavours of nvidia drivers could not be mixed... my bad.)

Anyway, oblivion seems to run fine, including music. AFAICT the pulseaudio backend seems to be better than the ALSA one on my machine --- so far everything works great, except for some issues with grass textures, but that's really minor.

Let me know if you need more informations, and thanks for the tip!

    Cheers,

BTW, you may improve your situation by setting "hardware acceleration" to "emulation" in winecfg, and disable multithreading in oblivion.ini file; at least this is what I read in several wine oblivion guides. HTH

    Re: wine 32-bit doesn't detect 64-bit OpenGL

I have the same / similar problem except xorg-x11-drv-nvidia-libs.i686 didn't fix this for me. In fact I have tried various times to get wine to work with 3d games and have failed. Native OpenGL works fine for me and I regularly play native 3D games like Enemy Territory Quake Wars. So seeing this thread I thought maybe it is time to see if someone can help me:

I have Fedora 13 installed with the following nvida drivers:
[pstahle@pstahlelinux ~]$ sudo yum list *nvidia*
    Loaded plugins: presto, refresh-packagekit
    Installed Packages
    kmod-nvidia.x86_64 1:260.19.12-1.fc13.1 @rpmfusion-nonfree-updates
    kmod-nvidia-2.6.34.6-54.fc13.x86_64.x86_64 1:256.53-1.fc13.3 @rpmfusion-nonfree-updates
    kmod-nvidia-2.6.34.7-56.fc13.x86_64.x86_64 1:260.19.12-1.fc13 @rpmfusion-nonfree-updates
    kmod-nvidia-2.6.34.7-61.fc13.x86_64.x86_64 1:260.19.12-1.fc13.1 @rpmfusion-nonfree-updates
    nvidia-settings.x86_64 1.0-8.fc13 @rpmfusion-nonfree-updates
    nvidia-xconfig.x86_64 1.0-5.fc13 @rpmfusion-nonfree-updates
    xorg-x11-drv-nvidia.x86_64 1:260.19.12-1.fc13 @rpmfusion-nonfree-updates
    xorg-x11-drv-nvidia-libs.i686 1:260.19.12-1.fc13 @rpmfusion-nonfree-updates
    xorg-x11-drv-nvidia-libs.x86_64 1:260.19.12-1.fc13 @rpmfusion-nonfree-updates
    Available Packages

Any suggestions why I don't work would be appreciated....

    Thanks,
    Patrick

    Hi,

Thanks for your response, but I didn't see anything that would help... Did I miss something?

Anyways, forgot to put in an example of the errors I see. Here is an attempt to start up Call of Duty 2:

the soluton for me was to install some additional sw packages of nvidia

    Hi,
Thanks for the info. I was missing akmod so I installed that but it didn't make a difference ...

    [pstahle@pstahlelinux Call of Duty 2]$ sudo yum install kmod-nvidia akmod-nvidia xorg-x11-drv-nvidia-libs.i686 xorg-x11-drv-nvidia-libs.x86_64
