FC14 Beta No Yum Update

Insalled FC14 Bata last night on one of my FC13 computers by upgrading. Went well until I tried to Yum update. Got the following:

There was a problem importing one of the Python modules
required to run yum. The error leading to this problem was:

No module named yum

Please install a package which provides this module, or
verify that the module is installed correctly.

It's possible that the above module doesn't match the
current version of Python, which is:
2.7 (r27:82500, Jul 26 2010, 18:19:50)
[GCC 4.5.0 20100716 (Red Hat 4.5.0-3)]

If you cannot solve this problem yourself, please go to
the yum faq at:
http://yum.baseurl.org/wiki/Faq

Tried to find this problem listed in theF14 Development Forum with no luck. Did what I could to fix it with no luck.

Adam,

I ended up reinstalling FC14 Beta as a fresh install. The yum problem want away. What was strange was that I couldn't get eth0 to come up. Finally had to do a ifup eth0 and it worked. Internet worked fine then.

Have another desktop with FC13 on it but will not upgrade to FC14 until it is stable. Unfortunately by doing a fresh install it is not possible to find the original problems solution.

Have never had a problem updating with a new upgrade in the past, but then again they were stable..

Thanks again for your help!

Re: FC14 Beta No Yum Update

You still have F13 yum. I guess you need to download yum's rpm (and probably yum-utils, yum-presto, etc...) and install it with rpm (rpm -Uvh ...)

Re: FC14 Beta No Yum Update

Hi

Apparently you ran into a problem that has already been fixed. From the yum changelog,

------

* Tue Oct 05 2010 Seth Vidal <skvidal at fedoraproject.org> - 3.2.28-5
- bumping to 3.2.28-5 so f12 doesn't have a higher version
- bug # 640181

Re: FC14 Beta No Yum Update

Raul,

Thanks for the reply. This morning when I turned the computer on everything seems OK from the first problem I had . Installing FC14 over FC 13 must have done the problem.

Was able to get all the Yum updates last night.

Re: FC14 Beta No Yum Update

yeah, the reinstall obviously solved it, but the problem was that you had an F13 yum, because F14's wasn't higher versioned.

We don't actually enable wired internet connections by default if you don't do a network install, you have to enable the network connection from NM the first time.
