Exclamation FC3 T3 Nvidia Problems

Hi Fedora Fellows,

I have downloaded the new FC3 T3 and i have made a clean install, then the 1st thing i do it was to install the 3D Nvidia Drivers.

So

init 3.....my system just freeze when starting anacron.....but i find the solution on this topic http://www.fedoraforum.org/forum/showthread.php?t=24840 Many Thanks for this one.

I have edit the etc/initab, i have booted in terminal and install the nvidia drivers.....then edit initab again for init 5...and i have startx

As always i have edit xorg.conf (comment load dri and change driver to nvidia)....and like i have done in FC3 T2 by a tip of a good member here i have added in etc/rc.local /sbin/modprobe nvidia

I made a reboot BUT.....my system stucks just after enabling quotas..like this

Enabling quotas--------------------------------OK

And stands there forever.......

Could you know what problem this should be... i think maybe in FC3 T3 i don't have add /sbin/ modprobe nvidia in rc.local....

One another thing, i was able to install nvidia drivers with this same method on FC3 T2...but the control panel of nvidia didn't appear on the start menu!!!!

Thanks
Sniff.

Temporary solution fot this problem is booting in init3 and starting X each time.
It must be a bug or something.

Hoping for best in final version of Fc3.

Thks, and it was your tip to /sbin/modprobe nvidia...but your nick is hard to remember

So i have to change initab and left him that way and log in terminal mode.

One question?

when i have tried to startx in terminal (init 3) mode it starts with that basic environment and not with KDE.

Wich command do i have to use to startx with KDE now that i don't have the Session Gui Option

Thanks

Well at least you can start X. Mine is complete fubar. I get stuck at the "Configuring Kernel Parameters" prompt.

So i edit the grub boot commands to remove "rghb quiet". This allows me to go through the initital boot up. It then tries to start X 3 times and fails. I get a command prompt, I've tried installing the Nvidia drivers and a modified version to see if I could get X up again but to no avail.

The interesting thing about this is, that I had no problem with the xorg settings until I updated yesterday. Go figure.

I'll do a fresh install again later, and try and solve it from there. If I get no further I'll attach my xorg.conf and Xorg.0.log.

Ug, I experienced the same thing... Yesterday's xorg update was a fatal signal 11 - no X. It has nothing to do with NVIDIA or any other graphics drivers (from my n00bish point of view).

I read in linuxquestions.org in order to fix this, we have to disable/rename a glx file. libglx.a or something like that. I'll try it tonight and I'll post the outcome.

Sniffer: Try running 'gdm' insted of 'startx', and you should get login screen, from where you can choose GNOME/KDE...
(i think it's 'kde-session' for KDE, not sure)

Ug: You need to do all this:
Boot in runlevel3 (change 'id:5' to 'id:3' in /etc/inittab)
Remove 'rhgb' from grub.conf
Install NVIDIA graphic driver(installer script + edit xorg.conf)
Do a 'modprobe nvidia' and 'cp /dev/nvidia* /etc/udev/devices/' (you can try starting X here)
And/or add this line in /etc/rc.d/rc.local -> '/sbin/modprobe nvidia'

Try to boot in runlevel5, if you can't, you will have to boot in runlevel3 login in text mode and 'startx' or 'gdm' each time.

No I now need to wipe and then do that. I sporked the Nvidia drivers and corrupted a few things.

Oh the joys of trail and error. (Rather strangely I do enjoy it)

I'm just about to upgrade to FC3T3... I have an Nvidia card. I need to update to TC3 because I need KDE3.3 because I need Kdevelop 3.1.3 and this seems to be the easiest way to get it.

Where is the xorg release you talk about ?

BTW: it was mentioned on kerneltrap that kernels 2.6.9 need special patches and a build to work with Nvidias 6111 driver.

What i have done:

1 - edit etc/initab to id:3
2 - log in terminal mode: username and password

3 - and inside root dir i have made a init 5 (so screen boot

For my question on control nvidia panel...i'm so dummy sometimes, just command "nvidia-settings"

Dummy and dummy....Thanks for the replys and help.
