Re: System Requirements
In short ... no.
You do not have enough RAM for a successful GUI install of a current fedora release.

Re: System Requirements
Since no one else mentioned any alternatives
Try Puppy Linux or Damn Small Linux

Sir Wayne?!?
Wow! You've certainly come up a bit in the world! I wondered why you went back to the UK. To pick up your title ... and your Walther, no doubt! <.. ..>

Re: System Requirements
Can't help you there. I do all my installs with lowly old CDs. Perhaps Sir Wayne can guide you.

Re: System Requirements
You can download LuPu-5.11 and burn it to a CD as an image or an iso then you can run it right from the CD. I believe that you can also install it to the hard drive, but Ive never tried just used the cd.

Re: System Requirements
Sir Wayne is busy cleaning the toilet (Not joking!) and has never installed an OS from a pen drive or any other none CD/DVD media so hasn't a clue
Sir Wayne is still deciding whether to wipe Windows from his new Thinkpad and install the
penguin. That is taking up all my brain power right now. Apart from the bit that died when I
was hospitalised!

Re: System Requirements
Hmmmm.
That kinda puts a new twist on that whole "Commander of the Bath" thing. <.. ..>
The warranty would be the only thing which would protect the minion from Redmond around here. Not a small consideration to be sure, but I'm probably quicker than most to send that nasty beast back under the rock from whence it came.

Re: System Requirements
Jalob, if you haven't already done so, just join the Puppy Forum and get their assistance. I'm sure that many over there have done exactly what you're trying to do. If you don't understand their instructions, ask more questions. We've all been new at this at one time and had to work through our problems too.

Re: System Requirements
Hmmmm.
Just successfully got System Rescue to install and boot from USB thumb drive ... but Puppy ... not so much. MINT9 and fedora USB installs failed as well.
I'm wondering if it isn't these specific thumb drives which are having the issues. The 1 gig units are working, but the 4 and 8 gig drives are not.

Congrats on the new Thinkpad! I would say ABSOLUTELY remove Windows and install a fresh version of whatever Linux operating system you prefer(hopefully Fedora )
Jalob: Did you try this method? http://www.pendrivelinux.com/puppy-linux-on-usb/
