Alt Gr within VNC sessions

I have trouble with characters typed with Alt Gr in VNC sessions.

This setup is used:
2.6.32.19-163.fc12.x86_64

I am running tigervnc-server:
tigervnc-server.x86_64 1.0.1-1.fc12 @updates

The viewer runs on Windows and is version 4.5.4 from RealVNC.

Alt Gr doesn't work with my German keyboard, so I can't type @, € or |.
It was okay for some time (possibly that time the setup was still F11, but it might also be possible that this changed with some update on F12 later), and now it's not. If I press Alt Gr+q (for @), there is only a "q" in the console for example.

What shall I check or reconfigure to get it working again?
