    boot stalls after trying to enable PCMCIA

    I've been running Fedora 2 for a few months and everything was running fine. Then all of a sudden, it won't boot anymore. It gets stuck during the boot process after printing out these two lines:

    Starting pcmcia: PCI: Enabling device 0000:02:01.0 (0000 -> 0002)
    PCI: Enabling device 0000:02:01.1 (0000 -> 0002)

    There's no error message, so I'm not sure if it has anything to do with PCMCIA. I'm running a Dell Inspiron 8200. I'd really appreciate any suggestions. Thanks!

    do you have anything actually plugged into the pcmcia slot when booting?
    if so, try removing it.
    if not, try inserting it first before booting.

    I am now getting the same error message when I try to boot. I have a Dell D600. The last thing that I remember doing (that could've possibly caused this) was my changing the MAC address.
    Please help!

    I'm having the same problem with a Dell C600. After setting up my wireless card it started. Any solutions yet?

    PCI: Enabling device 0000:00:03.0 (0000 -> 0002)
    PCI: Enabling device 0000:0003.1 (0000 -> 0002)

    My guess is pcmcia card manager is tying to install the same device twice.

    I got mine working again by doing a combination things. First edit /etc/sysconfig/pcmcia. Change the following option to...

    PCIC_OPTS="do_scan=0"

    If that doesn't work try...

    PCIC_OPTS="irq_list=5,9,11"

    You may have to try different irq combinations until you find one that works.

    If that doesn't work than edit /etc/pcmcia/config.opts.

    replace
    include port 0x100-0x4ff, port 0xc00-0xcff

    with
    include port 0x200-0x4ff, port 0xc00-0xcff

    or...

    include port 0x100-0x4ff, port 0x800-0x8ff, port 0xc00-0xcff

    Hope that helps!
    Mark
