Question [Q] yum fails to add repositories

    executing a command such as
    Code:
    rpm -ivh http://download1.rpmfusion.org/nonfree/fedora/rpmfusion-nonfree-release-stable.noarch.rpm
results in the following error message:
    Code:
    Retrieving http://download1.rpmfusion.org/nonfree/fedora/rpmfusion-nonfree-release-stable.noarch.rpm
curl: (6) Could not resolve host: download1.rpmfusion.org; Cannot allocate memory
error: skipping http://download1.rpmfusion.org/nonfree/fedora/rpmfusion-nonfree-release-stable.noarch.rpm - transfer failed
and it is not related to the repository, for example:
    Code:
    rpm --import http://dnmouse.org/RPM-GPG-KEY-dnmouse
curl: (6) Could not resolve host: dnmouse.org; Cannot allocate memory
    error: http://dnmouse.org/RPM-GPG-KEY-dnmouse: import read failed(-1).
When I then try to install something, for example:
    Code:
    rpm --import http://dnmouse.org/RPM-GPG-KEY-dnmouse
curl: (6) Could not resolve host: dnmouse.org; Cannot allocate memory
    error: http://dnmouse.org/RPM-GPG-KEY-dnmouse: import read failed(-1).
And when I check with 'yum replolist', they are indeed not added
    Code:
    Loaded plugins: fastestmirror, presto, refresh-packagekit
Loading mirror speeds from cached hostfile
     * fedora: ftp.heanet.ie
     * updates: ftp.heanet.ie
    repo id repo name status
    fedora Fedora 13 - x86_64 20,840
    updates Fedora 13 - x86_64 - Updates 5,934
    repolist: 26,774
Anyone a clue how to solve / search for a solution?

    MANY THANKS IN ADVANCE!!
    Philippe

Re: [Q] yum fails to add repositories

I would try entering some DNS nameserver IP addresses (your ISP's or OpenDNS's) into whatever is controlling your network interface. It's easy, reversible, and what I had to do for yum and wget to work properly in Fedora 13. Actually, I had to start doing that back in about Fedora 11.

    Cannot allocate memory
Commands must be performed with elevated privileges (e.g.: as root-user):
    Code:
    ]$ su
    ]# rpm -ivh http://download1.rpmfusion.org/nonfree/fedora/rpmfusion-nonfree-release-stable.noarch.rpm
    V

    Thanks for the replies,

    • stoat: I'll see if I can figure that out
    • Hlingler: Thanks, but that is not the case I double-checked but I did these commands after su

Re: [Q] yum fails to add repositories

If everything else is working (i.e., Firefox, Thunderbird, yum, wget, etc.) then you can try downloading those two RPM Fusion repo release files and manually install them.
    Code:
    su
    rpm -ivh *.rpm
If the DNS resolution thing is a problem with other applications attempting to connect to the Internet, then an easy test is to add OpenDNS nameserver addresses in /etc/resolv.conf. Like this...
    Code:
    nameserver 208.67.222.222
    nameserver 208.67.220.220
Then try again. But that edit very likely will not survive a reboot. If it worked, then enter those into whatever is controlling the interface.
