can't burn iso to cd

Dumb question # *****;
In the 9 months I've been using linux (presently FC2 2.6.8.1) I've never tried to burn cd's. I just tried to burn the fc3-test3-i386.iso discs, and I get the error message; "error while burning cd: you don't have permissions, disc is wrong media, disc is full ....."
I'm using CD-R, which is what it says I need. /mnt/cdrom has rw permissions in /etc/fstab. It doesn't matter whether I try it as root or as user.
I'm sure it is something simple, but I'm floundering.
Any help?

I don't think you are supposed to mount the blank cd-r before you burn them. What program are you using to burn the images? You should aslo be aware of know conflicts with kernel 2.6.8 and cdrecord.

Ahh! Thanks for the tip. I'm funning the 2.6.8.1 kernel, and it doesn't matter what cd burn program I use.... I get the same results. I think I'll recompile the 2.6.7 kernel. If I understand the warning message, it should work.

You shouldn't have to compile the kernels any more. Just use yum to installe them. You can, if you want, compile them, but get the source code via yum.

yum install kernel-sourcecode

You should just make sure your system is up2date becuase they have realeased upgrades to k3b and cdrecord to fix the problem.

Well, the only reason I'll have to recompile the kernel is that I'm running win4lin on it, and the NeTraverse enabling patches won't work on the rpm installed kernel for some reason. It's no biggie to recompile it ..... it's just that my wife slready refers to my computer as "The ****". So, if I make sure the honey-do list is completed before I do it, ....y'know, when she's happy, we're all happy....

I rebooted to the 2.6.5-1.358 release kernel for FC2, and it burned them with no problem, escept I had to reduce the speed from 52x to 26x. Later, I'll build the 2.6.7 kernel and make sure that works as well. I'll need the 2.6.7 kernel to patch for win4lin.
I appologize for not reading deep enough in the posts to see that this problem had already been addressed. I do thank you for your patience and quick response. Next time, I'll read a bit deeper before I post.

Success!! (Sort of)
I was able to burn all 4 disc iso's plus the rescuecd iso. Dumb question.... How do I make them bootable?

Go into your bios and, probably under the 'advanced' tab, change the boot sequence so that your computer boots first from the CD rom drive.

My machine will boot to cdrom. In fact, I can boot to the install discs for FC2. But if I try to boot to the newly burned fc3.iso doscs, it doesn't see them as bootable, and passes by to the bootloader. Is there something I'm supposed to do along with the FC3-test3-i386-disc1.iso that I burned to the cd? If I look at the FC2 disks, there is a lot more on them than just the **.iso
Seems to me it needs a boot image as well.

This may be something new in gnome 2.8, but I can right click the iso-files and choose "Write to CD". In the command line, use this command:

cdrecord -v -dev 0,0,0 -speed X -driveropts=burnproof file.iso

Use replace the dev part and the X with the speed of your choice.

The write speed should really be a problem. Cd-rs should just work...

Are you sure you burned the first iso. Try mounting it and make sure it is the first disk. Otherwise follow foolish's advice.
