If you want Fedora I'd recommend either waiting for Core 3 to release (which is fairly soon really according to the Roadmap) and going to Core 2 in the meantime (which is quite nice) OR you can go with this test core which has tremendous numbers of updates daily.

That said, those other programs are certainly available.. but only as packages targeted for Core 2 at best. Core 3 packages won't start showing up until Core 3 releases. While Core 2 packages will generally work, it's generally discouraged as the point of these releases are for testing (though I do it myself). yum appears to be the standard "package manager" for Fedora with Red Hat's "up2date" front end for those that prefer it. I think apt-get is a better package (with Synaptic) but my favorite is rug with Ximian's Red-Carpet front end. Whatever the case, any of these package managers will install your applications as long as you're willing to try to install Core 2 packages. You'll just have to change your .conf files to include the repositories of your choice. There are plenty of threads on here on how to do this with yum (which is included by default).

And of course, you can always go the tried and true route of downloading the source and:
./configure
make
make install
