wireless card not detected

Hello all, I searched this forum for posts similar to the problem I am having and i found a few, but I did not understand the solution (unexperienced user here) so I thought i would ask.

I recently installed fedora 13 on my laptop and everything appears to be detected, with the exception to my wireless card (a broadcom 43225 card).

I checked the list of drivers that came with installation and i could not find one for this particular card. is there any way for me to get a driver that would work with it (maybe a more general driver, just something to make it possible to connect over the internet) Or is it just not supported at all?

Thanks for reading

Re: wireless card not detected

Judging from http://forums.fedoraforum.org/showthread.php?p=1367310 on these forums, (I used google, just put in broadcom 23225 linux) apparently there are packages that support this card.

If not, then
http://ubuntuforums.org/archive/inde...t-1341538.html indicates that a 3rd party driver might work.

Naw, a duplicate thread is when you post the same question in say, hardware, and then again in networking. (By the way, such threads always have one of them closed by a mod, and an admonition to not do that.)

First add the rpmfusion repo. Then, use it to install the necessary packages.

This link should explain how to use the rpmfusion repository. If not clear, then post again, and don't be concerned about seeming foolish--we were all newcomers at some point, and people really do understand that what seems easy to them isn't necessarily easy for others.

Re: wireless card not detected

Ok, i followed the instructions on that webpage and installed the repositories, updated and restarted. It still doesn't seem to detect the device, and the driver is not in the list of ones available.

Did i miss a step somewhere?

Edit: Ok, after downloading the extra packages, the wireless device showed up, but for some reason i cant enable it.

Re: wireless card not detected

Is it definitely turned on? That is, sometimes, there's a hardware switch or a function key that turns the wireless on and off.

You can try taking a look at my http://home.roadrunner.com/~computer.../wireless.html and see if you can get it to scan with

iwlist wlan0 scan

Re: wireless card not detected

the hardware has an integrated touch switch on the laptop above the keyboard, it is displaying that the device is off but pressing it will not turn it on, and i had not pressed it off myself, so i'm not sure.

i will try taking a look at that guide, thanks

ok

following your guide i put in the ifconfig eth1 (the assigned name of the wireless device) and did not see anything saying it was up, when putting in the command to set the device up it says permission is denied. When trying to scan it says the device does not support scanning

---------- Post added at 12:53 AM CDT ---------- Previous post was at 12:40 AM CDT ----------

also, this is what i get when i type in ifconfig eth1:

Code:
eth1 Link encap:Ethernet HWaddr C4:17:FE:4E:28:65
          BROADCAST MULTICAST MTU:1500 Metric:1
          RX packets:0 errors:0 dropped:0 overruns:0 frame:0
          TX packets:0 errors:0 dropped:0 overruns:0 carrier:0
          collisions:0 txqueuelen:1000
          RX bytes:0 (0.0 b) TX bytes:0 (0.0 b)
          Interrupt:16

Spent the last few hours trying to figure it out, and suddenly it just started working. Really odd, the only thing i changed this time around was bootloader settings. I am really confused (but its working now so i'm not complaining)

Thanks for all your help, and ill keep that guide in mind from now one

Re: wireless card not detected

Glad it got working. As I've said, I think, I know nothing about that card, so not sure why it suddenly started working, but glad it does work.
