Webcam and Trackpad in Fedora 13 x86_64
Hi all,
I just installed Fedora 13 x86_64 on a new Dell E6410 notebook, and the webcam does not work. I tried to use cheese and I get "device not found".
Everything else except the scrolling function on the track pad seems to work.
Any ideas?
I was using Fedora 12 i686 on a slightly older (but very similar) Dell E6400, and both of these functions worked out of the box.
Any hints or suggestions?
Thanks.

I don't know about webcams, but is the trackpad scrolling enabled in System->Preferences->Mouse?

Thanks for your response.
I can't find anything related to trackpad in the mouse preferences...
Regarding the webcam, there is a possibility that it doesn't even have one installed, even thought the little hole for the camera is there.

My laptop's mouse preferences window has a tab marked touchpad but my desktop doesn't, which makes sense. Can you click on your touchpad?

Re: Webcam and Trackpad in Fedora 13 x86_64
I can indeed click on the touchpad, but there is no tab for it in the mouse preferences. I will check my other Dell running Fedora 12 i686 tomorrow and see what it has, since scrolling definitely works on it.
Thanks anyway for your help.

Re: Webcam and Trackpad in Fedora 13 x86_64
So I checked my Dell E6400 running Fedora 12 i686, and the trackpad option is there under the mouse preferences. In the E6410 running Fedora 13 x86_64 it is not. Very strange. But I can use the trackpad to click, just not to scroll. Weird.
And I'm now 100% positive that the E6410 has no integrated webcam, so that is why I can't use it! There was a mix-up when I ordered it.

Re: Webcam and Trackpad in Fedora 13 x86_64
sounds like the E6410's trackpad isn't recognized as a trackpad, for some reason. Can you post /var/log/Xorg.0.log and we can see if there's any useful info there?

Re: Webcam and Trackpad in Fedora 13 x86_64
Sorry for MY delay Went away for the weekend.
Well, that proves my conjecture:
[ 29.581] (II) XINPUT: Adding extended input device "PS/2 Generic Mouse" (type: MOUSE)
if you compare that to what I get on my laptop:
[ 11.717] (II) XINPUT: Adding extended input device "SynPS/2 Synaptics TouchPad" (type: TOUCHPAD)
as you can see, in your output it just sees it as a generic mouse. Something isn't realizing it's a touchpad and should be handled as one.
Honestly I'm not entirely sure what to do in this situation, as it's not one I've encountered before. However! What I DO know is who to ask. So I'll go and do that, if you'll have the patience to sit tight a while longer Thanks!

I'm not going anywhere, so any help is much appreciated.
Let me know when you figure out what I should do.
Thanks again!

Re: Webcam and Trackpad in Fedora 13 x86_64
Peter lets me know there's an RH bug for this already:
https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=590880
someone mentioned reporting it upstream to kernel.org, but there's not a clear indication that's actually happened yet.

Thanks Adam. I guess I'll just wait for a fix.
Cheers, Dave.
