Re: how to increase inode number on ext4

Doesn't seem correct for ext4 to me.

List output of these commands.

df h
df i
df l
fdisk -l
lvs

Read this -
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ext4

The extent part and the dirindex part.
But I think the answer is NO because the inode bitmap size it set at file system creation.
BTRFS will have dynamic inodes in the future.

The only thing I can think of is that you create a huge number of dir and files and then delete them and do it again?
Or you have a huge number of dir with 1 or 2 files in each?

Re: how to increase inode number on ext4

Only by adding more space to the LV/ext4 f/s but it can never get more full as a percent as it is doing now.

Re: how to increase inode number on ext4

From 'man mkfs.ext4':
Quote:
Be warned that it is not possible to expand the number of inodes on a filesystem after it is created, so be careful deciding the correct value for this parameter.
You have this options:
- backup your data, recreate file system with increased number of inodes, restore the data
- reorganize the data on your disk (archive less used data, remove duplicates)
