skype & fedora 13

so i am running fedora 13 x64

trying to install skype

it will install just fine. no error messages, however after its installed it says "Failed to execute child process "skype" (No such file or directory)" and I am totally stuck. I have been looking around for a good couple of hours now with no luck. So please if anyone can point me in the right direction or help me figure this out that would be awesome. Thanks in advance!!

Re: skype & fedora 13

Hello and Welcome to Fedoraforum.org,

Dangermouse(one of our admins here) has a tutorial on the subject: http://dnmouse.org/forum/viewtopic.php?f=3&t=712
If I am not mistaken autoten can install it for you also: http://dnmouse.org/forum/viewtopic.php?f=2&t=105

I use autoten myself and it has always worked great.

Hope this helps,

Ky

Re: skype & fedora 13

thanks for the suggestions, but i'm still not getting anything. I tried both options and the admin's way came up with an error wget command not found.. i was pretty sure that wget was a legit command but i guess not according to this. Any more suggestions?

Hmm, That's a bummer, I am not sure why its not working but I have a idea of what you could try:
Open a terminal and copy and paste this and press enter:
then if you type autoten in a terminal it should ask for root password then give you the autoten GUI. It should be all point and click from there. just click on the software you want one at a time and watch it auto install.

Re: skype & fedora 13

okay.. so i did that and tried installing skype again and got the following error

There was an ERROR operation has failed
Please Check the about button first and report any problems @ dnmouse.org

i hit install next to skype and it went through the setup in the command line window and then froze up because of the error.. mean anything to you?

Hmm that's frustrating, If I where you I would ask DangerMouse "what up?" He will probably have a better idea. He has a thread about autoten here in fedoraforum: http://forums.fedoraforum.org/showth...52#post1364452 or I guess you might find him at dnmouse.org also.

Hope this helps,

Ky

Re: skype & fedora 13

I've also downloaded Skype from their site with success. Link:

Re: skype & fedora 13

When I click to download Skype from their site, I open it with the installer instead of saving the file and it installs fine. If you are having problems trying all of these options, you might want to backtrack a bit and see if you can find out what's preventing the installation. For example, you state "wget command not found", well, if you copy and pasted the first line from Dangermouse's forum:
yum -y install wget libX11.{i586,i686} libv4l.{i586,i686} alsa-plugins-pulseaudio.{i586,i686} qt-x11.{i586,i686} libXScrnSaver.{i586,i686}
wget would have been one of the first things that was installed. Maybe your trying to do your installation from outside the directory where the files have been downloaded. Maybe for some reason your PATHS are off. I don't know, it's your box, and you need to, maybe, go line by line from the forum instructions and post the results here. It's probably something simple that you may be overlooking.
And I'm sorry, I haven't got the error using Autoten, I've never seen a prompt to check the about button, it may be something new he added with the F13 version, and, I haven't had an error come up in Autoten in a while. I mainly use it to install the codecs.

Edit: And after all that, could you have SELinux enabled? Just an idea, if you do, try disabling it.
