Fedora 13 Skype Mic Problem
Hi
Sorry if it has been asked before, actually I searched the forum but couldnt find any obvious solution. I have a Dell XPS M1330 laptop and have just installed fedora 13.
I installed skype and it recognizes my integrated webcam and picks video but doesnot pick up any sound from it.
By default it chooses pulseaudio but I could not find any way to select another one since it is not available on skype..
Would be grateful if you could explain a solution for me..
Thanks..

Re: Fedora 13 Skype Mic Problem
I have only had this problem once, with Ubuntu Lucid on an Asus 1005HA. (I didn't have the problem with the same setup on the very similar 1000HE. )
The solution was odd, but worked, not only for me but for others.

Re: Fedora 13 Skype Mic Problem
I'm sorry, I don't have Gnome on anything here at the moment. I don't remember it to be manage though, I thought it was something like volume.
Try going to the main menu and see if there's something under sound. Hopefully, you'll be able to get to the microphone that way.
By the way, at least when I did this, the icon to unlink left and right was rather unintuitive--I believe it's the second icon from the right. (Note that I only did this in Ubuntu--didn't have the problem with Fedora, so it may be different.)

Re: Fedora 13 Skype Mic Problem
I struggled with this for a long time in my Acer laptop, and finally the solution was very simple, maybe it works for you.
Open a terminal and run "alsamixer -c0". Press F4 to and then move to the Capture handle. Set the volume to the maximum and then set the left channel to 0 (pressing z I think). That is, mute one channel and set the other one to 100. After doing this, my microphone magically started working with Skype! Maybe you also get lucky...

Re: Fedora 13 Skype Mic Problem
I have a dell Precision M6400 with the same issue. I use the following to get it to work:
Code:
amixer -c 0 set 'Input Source' 'Digital Mic'
amixer -c 0 set 'Digital Mic' 20dB
Hope this helps you too...

Re: Fedora 13 Skype Mic Problem
If all the above do not solve your problem, try this thread. If you have more than one audio capturing device then you have to choose it correctly.

Hope this help.

Re: Fedora 13 Skype Mic Problem
Thanks Shooter! After i wrote
amixer -c 0 set 'Input Source' 'Digital Mic'
and made a skype test call, I saw that its now working! I didnt need to write the second line. I guess its about setting the SNR of the mic input..
Thank you all..
