hi, first off, when i initially installed fedora everything worked fine (i am for sure a windows convert!) i ran the software install tool, which found 400+ updates, i tried to run the update but it wouldn't work. i then ran the update through yum, everything updated fine and worked fine until i restarted my system. after the restart i noticed it was running reall, really slow, i tracked the problem down to compiz and disabled it, which is a shame because i really like the effects and tools compiz provides, i have never been able to run it since? anyone with any ideas?
the second issue appeared today, i tried again to run a software update throught the admin, the install hung and i ended up restarting the system, since then i tried to run the updates through yum just to make sure i got everything, but now i get the following error in yum:
$ yum update
There was a problem importing one of the Python modules
required to run yum. The error leading to this problem was:
/usr/lib/libelf.so.1: file too short
Please install a package which provides this module, or
verify that the module is installed correctly.
It's possible that the above module doesn't match the
current version of Python, which is:
2.6.2 (r262:71600, Jan 25 2010, 18:46:45)
[GCC 4.4.2 20091222 (Red Hat 4.4.2-20)]
If you cannot solve this problem yourself, please go to
the yum faq at:
http://yum.baseurl.org/wiki/Faq
just wondering how i fix this? i have tried to seach the web and found nothing?
also my system now will freeze every now and then for no apparent reason, the keyboard or touch pad no longer works and the only solution i have found is to hold the power button down to restart the system, are these two related?
any help greatly appreciated, thank you in advance1
