Trying to control an external MIDI device via Rosegarden-- no sound

As the title states...

I have an external unit with audio samples stored on it (a Roland SPD-S). The plan is to have the playing of the samples automated with a laptop during my band's live performances.

I'm able to control it using Seq24 which, while somewhat useful, is a very basic package that just loops over and over. I need it to automatically stop at the end of a song, which is something Seq24 won't do.

Enter Rosegarden: It's a much more complete and bigger package. Much bigger than I need actually. I'm only using it to control the SPD-S unit. Problem is, I get no output from the unit.

Now, if I can't get Rosegarden to work, I have no problem using a less complex sequencer--in fact, I'd prefer it. However, it's installed and I'd like to get it to do SOMETHING.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.
