init 3 and wireless acer aspire one

I am trying to create a command line only box. everything thing is detected from what i can tell.

the big problem that I am having is with connecting to wireless

the wireless that I am trying to connect to is open.

in init 3 I am using


iwconfig wlan0 essid jag1
iwconfig wlan0 key open
dhclient


how ever after running this it will not connect

how ever if i am in gnome or kde and run the same commands it will connect

I don't really know the answer. Sorry. But a harmless thing to try (and what I have done before) is this sequence...

/sbin/iwconfig wlan0 key open essid "jag1"
/sbin/ifconfig wlan0 up
/sbin/dhclient wlan0
