)I have Fedora 12 installed on Dell D400 laptop. I ran into the following very frustrating bug: the computer totally freezes when laptop lid gets closed.
Steps to reproduce:
1) Install Fedora 12 on Dell D400
2) Update, if you want :-)
3) Start it up, doesn't matter to runlevel 3 or 5
4) Close laptop lid
5) Computer hangs, freezes, gets stuck. :-(
6) Hard reset the computer.
After a while I've discovered that haldaemon is responsible. Stopping the haldaemon allows to close the lid without reboot, but is not a good solution in the long run.
Finally, I've found a solution:
How to make it permanent (copy and paste in terminal as root):Code:echo "1" > /proc/acpi/video/VID/DOS echo "1" > /proc/acpi/video/VID2/DOS
Hope this helps someone.Code:cat >> /etc/rc.local <<ENDL # Work around HAL bug with laptop lid closed: echo "1" > /proc/acpi/video/VID/DOS echo "1" > /proc/acpi/video/VID2/DOS ENDL
