Scanning from Canon PIXMA MX860 to PC using Fedora 12

Hello, everyone,

this is my first posting. As a 32 bit Fedora 12 newbie, I need guidance to use the scanning function available on my Canon printer model MX860.

As a preliminary, I downloaded and installed the "ScanGear for Linux (rpm)" .

(scangearmp-mx860series-1.30-i386-rpm.tar.gz from Canon's Europe website -software.canon-europe.com).

When I tried to scan from a document on the platen, apart from a brief processing message, the scanning function was not activated, unlike the longer and successful procedure when scanning to Windows Vista HP, where one uses MP Navigator EX ver 2.1.

It occurs to me that I need a Linux rpm version of the Navigator, but I am not sure if one is available, although the web search I did was brief.

Any help would be appreciated. I am trying to wean myself from Windows (I can print from my Fedora PC - the Canon printer driver was ok) completely.

Ken
