System tray applet disappeared - GNOME desktop panel on fedora12

Hi,

I accidently removed my system tray on Gnome desktop panel because of which i am unable to view pidgin IM client, volume contro etc. I did try restoring it by "# gnome-panel" by root login. This only ended up showng the new panel with root and not the actual user. and when i restart the computer even the root panel disappears.

Can anyone help me to restore my system tray applet?

Thanks a lot!!

Bhaskar

By system tray do you mean the one that shows "Applications - Places -System"?

I think that is called "Menu bar" and you can add one right clicking on the panel and sellecting "Add to Panel".

You can also try restoring your panels to the defaults.

Re: System tray applet disappeared - GNOME desktop panel on fedora12

hello,

thanks, i could get it back the same just by adding "Notification Area"

But I encountered new issue. Whenever login the user name does not appear on the panel. And I get an error message at the start up saying "problem with the OAFIID Panel Applet, do you want to delet the applet form the panel?"....

I do not what is it... look forward to the help...

Thx!!

Re: System tray applet disappeared - GNOME desktop panel on fedora12

The OAFIID I think is the name of the applet so if it is complaining the name in the /usr/lib/bonobo/servers/ and the one in the config files in /home/[user]/.gconf.apps/panel/applet must be different somehow. Maybe I'm not sure.

Here read this maybe it helps it shows how to test the apps(plugins)

Did you try deleting the applet and adding it again, this may redo the configuration file and solve the problem.
