Lexmark x1270 drivers on F12

Hey folks,

I tried Googling the forums for info on this printer but came up with a non-answer. The only thing I could find related to network printing.
The machine I am setting up is stand alone, and I don't think they want another computer just to control their printer.

Does anyone know where I might find a Lexmark x1270 driver for Fedora 12?

If not the exact model even a driver for similar model will do. Preferably one that has colour support.

Thanks,
Bert

Lexmark has been notorious for not providing Linux printer drivers, but, I've heard some are being released. The first link, when looking at some printer models, has rpm's for drivers. Some, like the x1270 don't, but maybe you can get lucky with a model that is similar. The second link has user made drivers from Linux.com (OpenPrinting). Good Luck, and please come back and tell us if you have any luck.

Re: Lexmark x1270 drivers on F12

Hi GoinEasy9,

Thanks for those links,

I've already checked out the first one.
No Linux support for the x1270.
Support for different versions of Windows on some of their models is patchy!

The second URl was alot more helpful. The X series is not well supported, but apparently an x600 driver should handle the printing duties at a lower resolution, and SANE should take care of the scanner.

So when the people get back home I will try it out. Next progress report in about a week.

Yhanks for then help.

Regards,
Bert

Older Lexmarks are really not supported very well. Newer Lexmarks are though... look for the Penguin logo on them next time you are in a store.

Re: Lexmark x1270 drivers on F12

Thanks steelaworkn,

I've known about Lexmark's support for some time, but didn't realise how old the x1270 is.
I've found Fedora to be pretty good at supporting older hardware in general as my hardware specs show.

Desktop
HP EVO w6000 workstation
1GB RAMBUS RAM
2 x 2.4 GHz Intel XEON dual core processors (OLD SCHOOL before the Core2 & Duos)
1 x 80GB PATA HDD
1 x 40GB PATA HDD
1 x CDRW drive
1 x DVDRW drive
1 x C-Media CMI8738 (model 55) Sound Card

Fedora 12 installed with Win XP Pro running in VB (for 1 our book keeping program)

Laptop
DELL Inspiron D600
PM 1.8GHz
1 GB RAM
40GB HDD

Fedora 12 installed with WIN XP Pro running in VB on 390ish MB allocated RAM
