No mic record input in alsamixer

Hello,

Because I am trying to use skype, I try to record my voice with a microphone.
I am working in FC12.

The second card is an intern soundcard and is not using.

My amixer output shows that I don't have any input possibility:

A test.wav file will be stored, but it is a file without any sound, so I hear nothing at all.

Plugged my microphone in de Micro-plug of the second card, I have done a sound-test in Skype and that was positive.

Another test was:

And I can hear it with:

Now I have to fix that I can use that card standard default for all applications.

One interesting solution I found in Ubuntu (on one particular machine, microphone doesn't work) was to install pavdevcontrol or whatever it's called, then unlink the left and right for microphone, and then slide one to the left and the other to the right.


I realize you've solved your problem--I'm just sticking this note in because (since it happened to me) I'm noting a lot of skype/microphone problems in various distributions. Fedora's been working for me though, although up till F14 there was still that pulseaudio lag. (Which can be sort of funny when being tested on two computers in adjacent rooms).

That was already installed on my computer.
Because for me, the texts and titles are in Dutch language, sorry that I have to translate something.
There are 5 tabs: Play - Record - Output hardware - Input hardware - Configuration.
Do you mean the Input hardware tab?
There I see 2 parts and the 2nd is for a microphone an there I see:
2) Intern Sound Analog Stereo > Enabled.
Port: Analog Microphone/Microphone1
For the left: a ruler is placed on 100%.
For the right: a ruler is placed on 100%

Moving one slider is moving the second together.

When I listening a internet-sound, then at the 1st tab Play, I can see the volumecontrol.

Please a question concerning pulseaudio:
Do I need pulseaudio really for sound applications?
Perhaps for Windows-applications with Wine?

Hi Gaston,

Yes, that is the screen I'm talking about, with input. If you click the icon next to the check mark--it's a pretty bad icon, it makes no sense to me, at least., but it should be the second to the right--you should be able to move the sliders separately. Then, move one of them to the left, and that is how I fixed my microphone on an Asus 1005HA. Note that my Asus 1000HE, which is very similar, did not have the same problem.

As for removing pulseaudio, it's become rather difficult to do. Sometimes, in the past, there was an pulseaudio-alsa-plugins (or something similar--that might not be the right name), package that could be removed and that would help.

In Fedora, for sound, at this point, as far as I can tell, it's a bit difficult to get rid of pulseaudio. As it hasn't been causing me problems lately, I haven't looked into it that deeply though, so someone might be able to give better information.
