I think that it is difficult to make it any simpler:

@sysmicuser: it looks very much like you have no internet connection. The program 'yum' downloads packages, so needs an internet connection to work.

Re: Can we watch dvd movies on fedora 12

Just FYI:
Why me must resort to third party repositories for DVD playback:
http://fedoraproject.org/wiki/Forbid...s#DVD_Playback

How yum works (yes, you need an internet connection for it to work; it downloads packages from repositories):
http://fedoraproject.org/wiki/Tools/yum

See also the mjmwired link in my signature.

(Also, for future reference, saying "it gave me some error message" is not very descriptive. It helps to actually state the error, even though in this case the problem was easy to identify.)

Re: Can we watch dvd movies on fedora 12

Wonderful and Thanks

@marriedto51 ,Yes you are right, I do not have internet connection.I use "3" mobile broadband internet and I seriously don't know why I am unable to connect to internet! I can see all the wireless connection then why not my usb stick one!? anyway I go to VPN configure and there I am trying to add but still unsuccessful.

@tjvanwyk Yep, I liked the article and wonderful yum information page.

Re: Can we watch dvd movies on fedora 12

I think there are many, many threads about internet connection issues. I think what I've had to do in F11 and 12, was put the IP addresses for my dns provider (Opendns) in the /etc/hosts: 208.67.222.222 opendns or possibly just your local access IP (i.e. 192.168.0.1) Or if you're using Network Manager then edit the wired or wireless connection, and on the IPv4 tab select 'Automatic (DHCP) addresses only and enter the primary DNS server IP. That will generate /etc/resolv.conf which in my case looks like:
Code:
# cat /etc/resolv.conf
# Generated by NetworkManager
nameserver 208.67.222.222
If that doesn't get you online, it could be wireless driver issues or something else. Lots of threads on those issues, too...

Re: Can we watch dvd movies on fedora 12

Sometimes the simpler solutions are in front of us. Why don't you just check the drivers/updates for your wireless network card. Try giving us some info on that.
