problem with xorg-x11-server-Xorg-1.7.99.901.8 and system-setup-keyboard

First excuse my english, but for me it is a problem complicate to explain in english.
There is an update of xorg-x11-server to xorg-x11-server-Xorg-1.7.99.901.8, and that also install by dependency system-setup-keyboard.
When I reboot my keyboard is not in french.
I do "system-config-keyboard" in root an I have my keyboard in french.
I reboot and I have a black screen, with error, I don't note this, but it is about the xorg-x11-server is not compatible with nvidia-driver (error ABI)
I look my xorg.conf and I see the " Option "IgnoreABI" "true"" line was removed.
I add this line, in my xorg.conf, I reboot, and I have not my keyboard in french...
Where is the error?
In xorg-x11-server-Xorg-1.7.99.901.8 or in system-setup-keyboard ?
Have you same issues?

Just an idea:
Did you check the /var/log/Xorg.0.log for any error messages, related to that topic?

Cordialement!

Re: problem with xorg-x11-server-Xorg-1.7.99.901.8 and system-setup-keyboard

Good question, I don't have problems with the keyboard but I do get error messages saying it will disable the mouse and keyboard settings and use another one.

It didn't bother me enough yet to look why it is doing what it does.

Quote:
(WW) AllowEmptyInput is on, devices using drivers 'kbd', 'mouse' or 'vmmouse' will be disabled.
(WW) Disabling Keyboard0
(WW) Disabling Mouse0
And after that it enables another thing, so I guess it could be that the gnome, xorg server and udev are mixing things up a little.

/home/[user]/.gconf/desktop/gnome/peripherals/keyboard/kbd/gconf.xml

Is where I suppose the configuration of the keyboard layout in gnome is, try checking to see if there is a file being created.

It should look like this:

Quote:

<gconf>

<stringvalue>Compose key compose:menu</stringvalue>

<stringvalue>jp</stringvalue>

</gconf>
ps: If the windows manager is overriding udev, xorg or vice versa probably is a bug and should be reported.

@BugRocks1
I don't use gnome but Kde

To solve problem I downgrade to xorg-x11-server-Xorg-1.7.3-7.fc13.x86_64.
That remove system-setup-keyboard and install fedora-setup-keyboard

Re: problem with xorg-x11-server-Xorg-1.7.99.901.8 and system-setup-keyboard

I had the same problem and reported a bug to bugzilla.

With the latest updates of
system-setup-keyboard-0.8.1.fc13.x86_64
xkeyboard-config-1.8.2.fc13.noarch
xorg-x11-apps-7.4.10.fc13.x86_64
xorg-x11-drv-wacom-0.10.4.4.fc13.x86_64
xorg-x11-server-utils-7.4.15.fc13.x86_64
xorg-x11-xdm-1:1.1.6.16.fc13.x86_64

available in updates-testing seems to be resolved. Now when I reboot the keyboard layout is no more always in english.

Re: problem with xorg-x11-server-Xorg-1.7.99.901.8 and system-setup-keyboard

From 2007(I think this won't help you because of the ABI error):

http://www.linuxquestions.org/questi...ayout-527347/?

Now to see errors(EE) and warnings(WW) you can use the command:

grep "EE\|WW" /var/log/Xorg.0.log

Quote:
(WW) warning, (EE) error, (NI) not implemented, (??) unknown.
(WW) AllowEmptyInput is on, devices using drivers 'kbd', 'mouse' or 'vmmouse' will be disabled.
(WW) Disabling Keyboard0
(WW) Disabling Mouse0
(II) Loading extension MIT-SCREEN-SAVER
(WW) NVIDIA(0): Option "PreferredMode" is not used
(WW) NVIDIA(0): Option "AddARGBVisuals" is not used
About the:
module ABI major version (9) doesn't match the server's version (7)

Some work arounds from the past.
http://forum.tuxx-home.at/viewtopic.php?f=10&t=78

This probably is a bug and should be reported:
https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=431176

udev is not loading and that is probably the cause of your keyboard problems.

http://fedoraproject.org/wiki/Input_..._configuration

You could try editing the configuration files for the KDE to see if it sticks because there is a chance that because udev is not functional KDE doesn't update the config files maybe I'm guessing here.

From what I can tell probably you could find the config files for KDE in

/.kde/share/config/kdeglobals

Since I don't have KDE installed I can't search for that sorry.

Tracing HAL problems:

http://www.freedesktop.org/wiki/Software/HalTraces

Quote:
Key information to include

Apart from information about what is wrong, a bug report against hal should include

1.

Traces from the hal daemon run as root like this: with hal <= 0.5.4: hald --daemon=no --verbose=yes, with hal >= 0.5.5: hald --daemon=yes --verbose=yes --use-syslog. Depending on your settings (or you distribution) you should maybe add the option --retain-privileges. In you need to hotplug devices, please wait until the line "Device probing is complete" have been printed - that makes it easier to read the output.
2.

/var/log/messages (or other appropriate syslog file) snippet from around the time when the hal daemon was running (e.g. just before till just after)
3.

lshal output, if applicable (e.g. if the hal daemon didn't crash)
4.

If the bug concerns storage devices and missing fstab entries, the contents of /etc/fstab just before the haldaemon ran, just after probing and just after you saw the bug.
5.

If the hal daemon crashes please obtain a stack trace - see this page on how to do that.
6.

Please state your OS, and the version of hal, udev and hotplug and kernel. If your OS use PolicyKit and/or ConsoleKit state also the versions of these packages.

Also use your common sense; there is no need to include a file if it doesn't contain useful information to resolve the bug.
Desktop and hardware configuration(old but with some interesting information)
