Did you choose to install a desktop environment? You could try to execute startx and see if it starts a gui.

You will need to use your user account you set up. Root GUI login is unavailable by default in F12.

You should have no problem logging in to a desktop environment as root. You just cannot do it from the GUI as Dan stated. Are you able to connect to the internet? Run the command ping google.com or something like that to test. Try a yum groupinstall "X Window System" . You may have to install either Gnome or KDE as well.

i tried the yum groupinstall "X Window System" it returns Error: Cannot retrieve repository metadata (repomd.xml) for repository: fedora. Please verify its path and try again.

Make sure that the fedora repository is enabled. cat /etc/yum.repos.d/fedora.repo .
Code:
[fedora]
name=Fedora $releasever - $basearch
failovermethod=priority
#baseurl=http://download.fedoraproject.org/pub/fedora/linux/releases/$releasever/Everything/$basearch/os/
mirrorlist=https://mirrors.fedoraproject.org/metalink?repo=fedora-$releasever&arch=$basearch
enabled=1
metadata_expire=7d
gpgcheck=1
gpgkey=file:///etc/pki/rpm-gpg/RPM-GPG-KEY-fedora-$basearch
A quick search turned up some having luck with commenting in the baseurl line. Also check this post http://forums.fedoraforum.org/showth...tory%3A+fedora

You can try a yum clean all then yum check-update . Also can try a yum clean expire-cache then yum check-update.
