Install Fedora via USB on PS3

Hello,

due to non working BluRay player I'm trying to install fedora 9 on my ps3 via usb stick. I downloaded the iso file and extract it to the usb stick. The installation proces starts. I selected the harddrive, pull up to sda1 directory and finally I choice in images/ the *.iso file. The fedora installation process starts, but after defining the partion process I got following error message:

"no valid partition found on harddrive"

fdisk -l shows the two partitions for the usb drive, only!

sda1
sda2

So I cannot find any tutorial who explains how it is to install fedora on PS3 only with the USB stick. Is here someone who were able to help me installing linux on the ps3?

Thanks in advance,
pajofeo

After looking here http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Linux_on_the_PlayStation_3, it says "Fedora 9 detects the internal disk but not the USB disk". that may be part of your problem. I would suggest using a different version of Fedora. Check out Fedora 12. I have it up and running beautifully on my PS3.

Hello,

I've tried to install Fedora 10, 11 and 12 via usb stick but without success. With Fedora 11 and 12 I got after choice the partition /dev/sda1 with the directory /images/install.img following error message:

"An error occurred finding the installation image on our hard drive. Please check your images and try again. Device /dev/sda1 does not appear to contain an installation image."

With Fedora 10 the installation manager starts but it freezes an will not go on.

So at the moment I'm little bit confused why this will not work via usb. I'm interested to use the IBM Cell SDK, so it might be necessary to install a supported linux.

Thanks in advance,
