Sun Java 64bit firefox plugin

I've got fedora12 64bit and have installed sun java 64bit. If I run java -version its shows that its using sun java. I have followed a few site now to get firefox to use the sun plugin but nothing seems to work. All I get when I click a java app is to run it in iced tea. Can anyone help change this to sun java.

disable the iced tea plugin in firefox: tools > addons and uncheck it.

or to remove it for good: (i did that when i moved to sun java for ff3.6)

Code:
yum erase java-1.6.0-openjdk java-1.6.0-openjdk-plugin

Actually there is. Go to www.java.com, click on the free java download button. However, there is a blurb at the bottom saying "* Please use the 32-bit version for Java applet and Java Web Start support. "

Edit: I see that you noticed that. Anyway, I wonder what the use of this plugin is if it's not for java applets?

All
Thanks for the help. I have it working now in sone form. Nor entirley sure what I've done.
I had the 64bit update 17 and that had an entry in FF addons but all I got when clicking on an app was iced tea. its installed under /opt/jrexxxxxx. I went with leigh's post of no 64bit and downloaded the 32bit update 18 rpm.bin file. I installed that which went into /usr/java/ I then used alternatives --config java and the plugin.so file and somehow its working. in a terminal java -version is using update 17. In FF addons there is only an entry for u17.
Anyway its working now so thanks all

I followed the directions in the link you posted, now I have 64 bit java working in Firefox, but it nuked my Flash Player and even after reinstalling it from the Adobe repo I can't get it to work. I even tried copying the libflashplayer.so file into the /usr/lib64/mozilla/plugins and the regular /usr/lib/mozilla/plugins both and couldn't get it to work. I even tried double checking the instructions on that guide to make sure there wasn't something special I had to do to get them both to work, nogo.

Just an update, I'm using the 64 bit Firefox, and I installed the 64 bit Flash and it seems to be working pretty good, :-) Problem solved.
