tda9887 for tv-card not loaded the first time

Hello,

my problem is that the module tda9887 is not loaded if I switch on my computer. After a reboot it is loaded and the tvtimes is getting a signal from my tv-card.
If I try to load it with
Code:
modprobe tda9887
the module is loaded but there is no signal in tvtimes. Nothing changes if I also try to reload the tuner module.

How can I get my tv-card working without a reboot?

I am using Fedora 10. My computer contains:
-graphics: Lead896 D3 X GTX260 Extreme+
-CPU: Intel Core2Duo E8500, 3166 MHz, FSB 775
-mainboard: Asus P5Q-E, P45 F G SA
-memory: D2 4GB 800-5, K2 KVR
-CD/DVD: LG GH-22NS, 22x SA SD bk B
-tv-card: Hauppauge WinTV HVR-1300 -t/a PCI
-sound: Creative X-Fi Xtreme Music UAA B

I had a problem with the order of sound and tv card; it is solved, see
http://forums.fedoraforum.org/showth...61#post1324761

With lsmod after a 1st start of the computer and a reboot (2nd start) I find only the difference that after the 1st start the modules tda8290 and tda9887 are not loaded. Loading with modprobe causes no changes.

I have attached a dmesg output for a first and a second start. Here are the differences between both files reported with diff:

Experienced this problem in F10 some times ago too. Assume it was a kernel problem. In F12 everything runs fine. So there is one solution.

Is there already a stable version of F12?
If I build the drivers for my sound card and for my video card by myself I have to do it again after a kernel update, right? Because the X-server is not running without this driver installation I should change the init level to 3 before updating, correct?

Its my first time with kernel updates, so I think its better to ask first.
Thanks for your reply,

Andreas

In my opinion F12 runs much better then F10, altough it might not be stable in every respects. The HVR-1300 does very well. In respect of drivers i am stumped for an answer.

Yes, thats right.

But: what is the best way to do an update? The System (k-desktop) is showing me only the F11-stable for a distribution update since a week or two.

So if you do not want to loose your data, e.g. in your home directory, do you safe it before or is it possible to make a clean install over the old system?
Possibly not, right?

I make backups on my USB-harddrive with
lftp -c 'set net:limit-rate 781920;open ;anon;mirror --delete-first file:/home/.../ /media/...'
so everything can be copied back. Most data are on an separate partition. Else all data are lost.

OK. I tried to upgrade from Fedora 10 to Fedora 12. I used
Code:
preupgrade
but after a restart, when the system tried to upgrade, it asked for a driver (looks like network) that could not be found. If I choose driver disk the system halted and I need to restart.

So the only solution is to set up a new system!?
My /home folder is on a separate partition. So anything is safed here? What e.g. is with the settings of my email program Thunderbird?

Thanks for help,

Andreas
