AMD's Launches Budget Processor Refresh

Quote:
MojoKid writes "AMD has again launched a bevy of new processors targeted squarely at budget conscious consumers. Though Intel may be leading the market handily in the high performance arena, AMD still provides a competitive offering from a price/performance perspective for the mainstream. HotHardware has a performance quick-take of the new 3.2GHz Phenom II X2 555 and 2.9GHz Athlon II X4 635. For $100 or less, bang for the buck with AMD is still relatively high."

Not to forget, Intel needs to push in good IGP support.

Good for some people I guess, but to be honest, everyone is pretty much now "Don't get AMD their slower than a slug, whatever you do, never buy them" .

They forget that there was a time where, AMD were incredibly faster than Intel, and Intel were the ones trying to catch up.

I still stick to AMD though. But Personally, I'm waiting for the six-core desktop CPU's :-)

From what I heard i7's six/eight core CPU's are in fact quad cores, with two/four virtual cores, eg not physical cores.

The six-cores I'm referring to are the AMD "Thubans" (Google it if you don't know them)

Also have you seen the price for one of the "top" i7 models?

I think I'll wait out for a better price/performance from AMD

i7 doesn't has 6 cores but only 4. It is the Core i9 which will feature 6 cores.

If you are on a budget and don't want to invest in a graphics card, the AMD/ATI combo turns out pretty nice.
But I really wish ATI had drivers as good as Nvidia's.

Nvidia doesn't HAVE drivers. All they have is a disfunctional blob.
AMD *does*, and they work VERY well.
If you want 3d in your R600/700, just "yum install mesa-dri-drivers-experimental".
